Guess who''s back.. back again?
It’s February 1st and many know know but there is a a larger population that doesn’t know.. today is the first day of African American History Month, or as it's more commonly called Black History Month!
Black History Month also is one of my favorites. And by one of my favorites, I mean my absolute favorite month of the year. When i started my educational journey I started out in small-ish private school that was predominantly black, well established, known in my community for excellence, but located in the inner city, which came with its downfalls and benefits.
One great thing about it being a small school was that everyone knew each other. My older sister also when to school with me, she was two years ahead of me, but it made school like a second home; I knew all her friends and she knew most of mine. The teaching and administrative staff were super sweet but always picked you to do your best, not to mention in my first few years there I had an aunt who taught one of the preschool classes.
With my private school being predominantly black cane a lot of pride and dedication to further the knowledge of our black community. With this cake the singing of the negro national anthem everyday after the pledge of allegiance and every February there was a African American appreciation program as well as everyday during the morning announcement African American Tricia of all the great inventors, creators, and revolutionaries that made the little things in my life I sometimes don’t appreciate a possibility.
This month makes me so excited because as much as I already know there’s still soo much I can still learn, and for all that I know there is a large portion of the population that doesn’t know about my people’s history because black history month is a ‘mainstream’ celebration.
With all this I have said I hope you all keep reading my blogs and appreciate the little nuggets of black history trivia I’ll have rolling in for you in every post. Going further my goal is to be more consistent as I took the month of January off and I can’t say that about every other day I wasn’t guilt-ridden because I wanted to write.
This may be coming a month late, but Happy New Year!
